Site visit - Monash University site in Clayton

Posted on Apr 08, 2020

Incolink Field Officers are still heading out to site and last week ventured to the Monash University site in Clayton.

Monash University’s Woodside Building for Technology and Design, Clayton

Lendlease is in the finishing stages of constructing the Woodside Building for Technology and Design at Monash University. The education facility will comprise five storeys and 30 teaching spaces, including an interactive area accommodating 360 people. Overall, the facility will support 1,200 post graduate students in gaining higher education in energy and technology.

Lendlease has also delivered a Climate Active certified carbon neutral construction service at the project – a first for the Australian construction industry.

Whilst on site, we caught up with HSR, Andrew McDougall to discuss the changes to site with the latest Government health and safety guidelines in mind. Andrew also touched on the role Incolink has played during his time in the industry and the impact this has during uncertain times.

Incolink – the safety net for the construction industry.

“On every job we’ve had people going through different issues. We’ve had health checks on jobs [and] we’ve had counselling services provided to workers, which has really helped.”

Referencing Incolink services during these uncertain times, Andrew said, “The Incolink insurances have really helped the blokes knowing it’s there for them. [They're] aware of the COVID-19 payments to assist if sites are closed, or they are directed to self-isolate by a doctor or the Government, which is peace of mind in case that happens.”

Workplace Health & Safety more important than ever.

Lendlease is ensuring that all sites are focused on the health, safety and wellbeing of their workers, including social-distancing and increased attention to hygiene.

Andrew said, “We’ve cut down capacity in lifts, inside the sheds we’ve taken out half the chairs to reduce the number of people in there and keep workers a safe distance apart from one another.”

“100% Lendlease and the Unions are working together on this to support the common goal, we all want to keep our people informed and safe, and to keep the industry going.”

A great example is being set by Lendlease Site Manager Dai Davies, HSR Andrew McDougall and the crew at the Monash Clayton site. We love this industry and want to say thank you to everyone doing their part to make sure the Building & Construction Industry stays informed, safe and productive.
