Australia 108, a 101 level building which, when completed, will be the southern hemisphere’s tallest apartment tower.
On the way to its completion in 2020, Australia 108 will generate considerable employment for Victoria’s building workforce, growing from the current 150 workers on site daily to more than 550 a day when the job is at full capacity. Most of the current workforce is in the structure and service trades.
A signature of the tower, designed by leading architects Fender Katsalidis Architects, is an iconic facade with a ‘starburst’ feature. Safe erection of the ‘starburst’ is one of the key challenges of the project. Another is successful integration of six staged handovers for the project, some of which will occur while the structure, ‘starburst’ and facade works are still under way.
Australia 108 is serviced via two cranes, which provide good all-round serviceability to the job.
The building features a podium with single basement, retail, two foyer spaces, porte cochere private drive way, an interconnecting laneway, communal facilities levels and 1,105 apartments. There are three communal levels - 11, 70 and 71, of which a whole level is dedicated for the exclusive use by high rise residents. These facilities include multiple pools, gymnasiums, theatre, private dining rooms, lounge areas, sky garden, wellness zones and a virtual golf simulator.
