Supporting crane trainees as they raise the bar

Posted on Mar 08, 2024

Training is an essential investment in our industry

By 2040, there will be an estimated 26,000 job vacancies in the construction industry.

We’re proud supporters of the Victorian Mobile Crane Traineeship Association (VMCTA) which runs their program out of the CFMEU Training Unit in Port Melbourne.

We recently had the opportunity to watch the fifth group of trainees graduate from the program.

Over those two years they've grown dramatically. They've come out of this with a real overall knowledge of the industry.

Steven Deer, Head of Training

For our next generation of crane drivers, quality training is essential. That’s why we've invested more than $250 million in industry training over the last decade.

It was great to see the fifth group of trainees graduate and hear about the importance of the program from employers, educators and trainees alike.

The VMCTA program provides more than just a ticket. It provides learners with the soft skills needed to lay the foundation for their careers.

Head of Training Steven Deer said “They’ve really built their career in the industry. It’s a great outcome.”

Congratulations to everyone who graduated in VMCTA Group 5.
