West Gate Bridge Memorial 54 years on

Posted on Oct 24, 2024

Last week marked 54 years since the collapse of the West Gate Bridge, Australia’s worst construction safety incident.

Hundreds gathered at the memorial site in Spottswood to mark the anniversary and remember the lives lost on 15 October 1970.

Throughout the ceremony we heard stories from the remaining survivors of the incident and their families.

It was an important reminder that the impacts of a tragedy like this can be felt for generations to come.

Speaking about the memorial Incolink CEO Erik Locke said “We honour their lives and recognise the relentless pursuit by workers, unions, employers, associations, communities and our government, to protect life and promote safety”.

“After all construction work is dangerous work, and everyone has a right to return home to their loved ones in good health at the end of the day”

Erik Locke, Incolink CEO

We’d like to thank those who have contributed to making safety a priority in our industry.

This time of year can be difficult for some, please reach out for support if you or your family needs it.
