Incolink Quarterly Industry Snapshot

Welcome to the first Incolink Quarterly Construction Industry Snapshot. As the safety net for construction, we’re providing Employer Members and Industry Stakeholders with a comprehensive economic productivity overview for our industry.

The Incolink Industry Snapshot will cover everything from economic profiles to apprenticeship figures. We hope you find this insight valuable in planning and decision making throughout the year as we bounce back from the impacts of the Coronavirus pandemic.

April 2022

In this edition:

  • Employment: 6.2% of the Victorian workforce are construction workers.
  • Apprentices and trainees: There were 76,620 Trainees and Apprentices from June 2021. 18,080 of these were female which is an increase of 53.5% since June 2020.
  • Building activity: There are $779M in projected building starts in Victoria.

February 2021

In this edition:

  • BCI Outlook by construction sector: Overall: 26% decrease projected in the value of total construction starts for Victoria (year ending March 2021 compared to year ending March 2020)
  • Industry confidence: Property industry confidence has rebounded strongly, from 64 points to 115 on the index (Neutral Confidence = 100).
  • Employment: Total number of payroll jobs in the Victorian construction industry have decreased 19.6% since March 2020
  • Apprentices and trainees: There was a decrease in the number of construction trades apprenticeships commenced in the year ending June 30, 2020 compared to the previous year - in Victoria (9,780 compared to 10,180).
  • Building activity: There was an 8.6% increase in dwelling approvals for December (seasonally adjusted), after a 4.6% fall in November.
