EXCELLENCE AWARDS HIGHLIGHT OUR VITAL, INNOVATIVE INDUSTRY

Posted on Oct 20, 2019

By Rebecca Casson – CEO, MBAV

On Friday, 16 August at the Crown Palladium, I was delighted to finally attend the Excellence in Construction Awards I’d heard so much about since becoming CEO.

In front of an audience of over 630, Kane Constructions accepted the highest accolade for a commercial project — the RACV Cape Schanck Resort, an exceptionally complex project that relied heavily on the company’s site management and project engineering teams. The coastal location exposes the site to wind and wild weather from Bass Strait. The sand dune-like soil conditions made executing the curved structure and façade elements a special challenge.

The precision and control required to deliver a structure like this, in such difficult terrain, is truly impressive. It is testament to the excellence of the Kane team that they achieved precision on such a challenging building site.

We also honoured Alex Wilson, of Harris HMC Construction, who was named Young Builder of the Year. Alex is a driven young man who is eager and capable, always prepared to tackle projects of great responsibility. He represents the remarkable commitment and achievements of younger people in our industry’s workforce, and part of the pool of talent from which future leaders in Victorian building and construction continue to emerge.

The joint venture of Kane Fairbrother earned the title of Regional Commercial Builder of the Year for its work on Rivergum Residential Treatment Centre in Ararat. Rivergum is a secure facility that provides short-term treatment for offenders on supervision orders. It includes 20 cottage-style units, administration buildings, a multi-faith chapel, recreational spaces, landscaping and supporting infrastructure.

Kane Fairbrother constructed living quarters that respond well to a difficult program challenge, blending institutional demands with environmental awareness for both residents and the community the building serves.

As I shared with our awards audience, events like this bring us together to make our industry and communities stronger.
