Supporting top apprentices to test their skills

Posted on Mar 18, 2024

For apprentices having access to industry-best training is the start of a long and successful career.

As Master Plumbers Technical Advisor Aaron told us recently the work of plumbers is often hidden behind walls but plays an essential role in our day-to-day lives.

We were a proud sponsor of PICAC’s 2024 ‘World Plumbing Day’ Apprentice Skills Contest.

This competition brings together the best and brightest plumbing and sprinkler fitting apprentices to show off their talent.

It gives them a chance to show off things that wouldn’t be seen normally

Aaron Bridger, PICAC Skills Competition Judge

How the competition works

Throughout the day participants competed in challenges to show off their skills and gain recognition for their hard work.

On the day each competitor was given a set plan they needed to work to in each challenge.

The competition was split into two categories: sprinkler fitting and plumbing.

This year the plumbing apprentices were given a sanitary and water job working with a variety of different materials and tools.

The sprinkler fitting apprentices were given the chance to build a valve set, working with copper and steel to get the job done.

They were judged on their measurements, welding, jointing and overall workmanship. Safety also plays a significant role in their success on the day as it does every day.

Congratulations

We’d like to congratulate Plumbing Competition Winner Matt Steward and Sprinkler Fitting Competition Winner James Rigas for being the top performers on the day.

Both are deserving winners showing skill, safety, attention to detail and professionalism throughout the contest.

Congratulations to everyone who completed on the day.

Thank you to PICAC and their supporting partners, including Master Plumbers, NFIA, PPTEU, AMCA, CEPUTEC and Fire Industry Training for hosting another innovative and valuable skills competition.
