West Gate Bridge Memorial: 52 years on

Posted on Oct 17, 2022

Saturday marked 52 years since the collapse of the West Gate Bridge.

Over 200 people gathered at the memorial site in Spottswood to mark the anniversary and remember those we lost on 15 October 1970.

Saturday’s memorial was opened by Uncle Ringo (pictured below) who welcomed everyone to country, shared stories, and lead a smoking ceremony.

Each year, we take time to stop and reflect on the tragedy that occurred and it serves as a reminder that we must do better.

We thank those who have contributed to making safety a priority in our industry.

This day and time of year might be difficult for some, reach out for support if you or your family needs it.
