Victoria’s Building Equality Policy came into effect on January 1, 2022.

The policy aims to stimulate training and career opportunities for women in the building, infrastructure, and civil engineering sectors.

The Australia-first policy was introduced in response to persistently low levels of female participation in construction, which have remained unchanged for the past 30 years.

Developed by Master Builders Victoria, the standards recognise that all organisations are accountable for gender diversity and inclusion. Employers are responsible for implementing modern and effective recruitment and retention practices.

Women should have equal access to roles and opportunities in the industry, the Victorian Building and Construction Recruitment Standards (VBCRS) were designed as an intervention to increase the participation of women across all sectors, levels and roles within the building and construction industry.
