What a critical incident is
A critical incident is an event that affects a group of people on or off site that is unexpected, occurs suddenly and has a strong and sudden emotional impact, causing stress and may cause lasting psychological effects.
A critical incident can be:

- 'Near miss' on site

- Suicide of a fellow worker
- Suicide of a member of the general public on site
- Traffic accidents on or off site
How the dedicated support line works
When calling CIRL, an Incolink staff member will support you to identify the most appropriate response to the situation. This may involve:
- Bringing a counsellor to site
- Arranging a call back from a counsellor
- Helping to arrange a future counselling appointment
If you want to arrange individual counselling for yourself or someone else, please call 1300 000 129. Consent is required when making an appointment for counselling.
If you or someone on-site is in imminent risk of harm to yourself or others please call 000.
An Incident Response (CIR) worker will determine when it is appropriate for an Incolink representative worker to attend the site with a counsellor.
The below shows the questions we’ll ask and what you can expect in different situations.
